Kanematsu Futuretech Solutions (KFT), the authorized distributor of Melexis in Japan, announces the launch of the MLX81339, a new embedded motor driver IC featuring PWM and serial interfaces. Designed for compact 3-phase BLDC and stepper motor control up to 40 W, the MLX81339 is ideal for industrial applications such as fans, pumps, and positioning systems. Its programmable flash memory allows full customization to meet specific application requirements.

■ Addressing Industry Needs
Across industrial sectors, there is increasing demand for smarter, quieter, and more efficient motor control in compact designs. Applications such as server cooling, home appliances, HVAC flaps, and automated valve control face constraints in size, development time, and cost. In such environments, traditional motor drivers often pose challenges due to software complexity or hardware footprint.
■ Key Features
The MLX81339 offers Flash programmability in a compact footprint, supporting both 3-phase BLDC and bipolar stepper motors. It utilizes field-oriented control (FOC) for silent and efficient operation, ensuring reliable startup, stopping, and precise speed control across the full speed range.
■ Development Support
To accelerate development, Melexis provides the StartToRun web tool, which simplifies motor driver prototyping. By generating configuration files based on user inputs—including motor, electrical, and mechanical parameters—engineers can reduce development time and minimize reliance on software expertise.
■ Electrical Specifications and Protection
- Supports up to 20 W at 12 V and 40 W at 24 V
- Integrated 3-phase driver with configurable current limit up to 3 A
- Built-in protection: undervoltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature
- Available in QFN24 and SO8-EP packages for compact PCB layouts
- Wide supply voltage range: 6 V to 26 V
- Operating temperature: -40 °C to 125 °C (junction temperature up to 150 °C)
■ Interface and Compatibility
The MLX81339 includes 8 general-purpose IOs and supports PWM, FG, I²C, UART, and SPI interfaces, enabling easy integration into both legacy and smart systems. It supports sensor-based and sensorless control, ensuring quiet and robust motor operation even under load transients and fault recovery—avoiding unexpected resets common in less advanced drivers.
■ Application Areas
- Smart industrial and consumer motor control
- Positioning motors, thermal valves, robotic actuators
- Residential and industrial ventilation systems
- Dishwashing pumps
- Automotive fans and blowers (automotive qualified)
